Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a New York native, became the youngest woman elected to the House of Representatives.
Political newcomer and self-described democratic socialist Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez defeated her Republican challenger, Anthony Pappas becoming the youngest woman elected to the U.S. Congress.
Ocasio-Cortez, 29, won the Democratic nomination in an upset primary against longtime incumbent Joe Crowley over the summer.
She will represent a district that includes parts of Queens and the Bronx in New York City.
